LSU Hockey was started in 2007 by a small group of dedicated individuals but is quickly growing into a new LSU tradition. During our first year LSU Hockey focused on player development and increasing awareness of the sport while we competed in Division III club play through the ACHA. 2008 will be our 2nd full season - and this year we're playing SEC Hockey!

After building a solid foundation in 2007-08, we are poised to have a breakout year in 2008-09. For the upcoming season, we worked closely with other SEC schools and have established an SEC Ice Hockey Conference. This will match LSU against our traditional SEC rivals. From the western hockey conference, we’ll play teams from Arkansas, Vanderbilt, and Mississippi State. We’ll also crossover to the east and play the Florida Gators, one of our top rivals year in and year out. We also anticipate an end-of-season tournament to see who is the best of the best in the SEC. This should contribute to another exciting year for the Tigers!
Even more exciting are two key rivalry games with opponents who will be playing LSU in football on the same weekend! The Georgia Ice Dogs visit Friday October 24th and the Alabama Frozen Tide joins Nick Saban in their first trip to Baton Rouge on November 7th and 8th. If you like watching the Tigers mix it up in football, you’ll love the intensity your Tigers bring to ice hockey!
As a completely student-run organization, taking responsibility for the off-ice business needs provides us with real-world experience and gives us the opportunity to drive our passion for this fast-paced sport. 100% of our funding is provided through the direct efforts of our players and coaches. We have player dues that are paid at the beginning of each season and each player also contributes to external fundraising efforts, such as merchandise and sponsorship sales.
As we enter our second year of competition, our club is uniquely positioned with a sport that is quickly growing in the LA/TX region. While other hockey programs have come and gone over the years, having an “LSU” team gives our community a continued sense of pride and allegiance as they have with other Tiger athletic teams.
It is the passion and generosity of our supporters that helps us with the resources we need to practice our game and schedule other competitive teams for an exciting season. Again, on behalf of the LSU Tiger Ice Hockey Club, we thank you for your interest and support… GEAUX TIGERS!
